15th annual Backpacks to School event helps Port Chester students in need

This year—the event will be giving out a total of 1500 bags with critical school essentials.

On Saturday, over 75 volunteers packed into The Sharing Shelf to fill school bags with supplies for middle school and high school students in need.
This year—the event will be giving out a total of 1500 bags with critical school essentials.
This includes notebooks, colored pencils, highlighters, a filled pencil case and more.
According to executive director and founder Deborah Blatt, the non-profit partners with various local organizations who place requests for students in need of a bag.
"Children are missing school because they are facing clothing insecurity or they're lacking basic material needs. It's critical to their success to start the school year off on the right foot," said Blatt.
On Monday, the organization and its volunteers will work to pack their elementary school backpacks.
All the bags will be distributed on Tuesday.
