The Wig Outlet in Hartsdale celebrated its 12th anniversary on Saturday by opening its doors to families in need of human hair replacements.
The Wig Outlet owner, Erica Broderick, says the store has been partnering with the nonprofit "Children with Hair Loss" for the past 10 years. The nonprofit provides wigs to people with medically related hair loss.
The Wig Outlet takes measurements and what style each client wants, sends the measurements over to the nonprofit, and in turn, the nonprofit creates the wig, free of charge.
The store welcomes anyone year round with colored, permed, and even grey hair to donate.
Donations must be at least 8 inches long, tied in a ponytail and placed in a plastic bag for admittance.
Broderick says there's no better feeling than being able to give back.
"It's just so meaningful to me to be able to do this, and to give back, and to feel like I'm doing something important in the world," she said.
For those who were unable to attend Saturday's drive, The Wig Outlet accepts both monetary and hair donations year round.
The store also sells hair extensions, wigs, hair pieces, head scarves, and much more.
The Wig Outlet is open Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
It is located at 194 Central Park Ave. in Hartsdale, Westchester County.
