WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Saturday is a half and half day. The first half is a mostly pleasant, sunny and humid.
Showers and storms amp up for late afternoon and into the evening. These storms have the right ingredients to be powerful and dangerous and will develop suddenly.
Rain could start after lunchtime, with scattered storms moving through from 2 p.m. to around sunset. Some of these storms could produce gusty, damaging wind as well as isolated flash flooding, lightning, hail and a lone tornado cannot be ruled out.
The main concern is the gusts, between 40 to 60 mph, which could cause power outages and downed trees.
Rainfall rates could be heavy at times, with downpours that could produce flooding. There could be areas who see 1 to 2-plus inches of rain by the time everything wraps up Sunday afternoon.
Showers will continue overnight and into the first half of Sunday. The second half of Sunday will improve drastically.
Temperatures continue in a summer-like feel for Saturday, with highs in the mid-80s.
There will be a noticeable temperature change for Sunday after the storms pass through, with highs only reaching the low 70s.
The return to fall-like weather continues into the work and school week and temperatures in the 70s sticks in the region for the majority of the next week.
Main rain chances happen over the weekend, with some low chances returning midweek.
While an inch or two of rain is helpful, drenching rains are needed to help with the drought throughout the area. Without it, foliage could be less vibrant for fall and short-lived.
