Hunters in the Hudson Valley can now use crossbows during bowhunting season under a new law signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The legislation expands the definition of long bows to include recurve bows, compound bows, and crossbows. Licensed and trained hunters can now use crossbows during any big game season where bowhunting is permitted.
To hunt with a crossbow, hunters still need a valid license, the bowhunting privilege, and bowhunter education certification.
