Retired police officer detained after fatal Beacon shooting

State police say the victim was a 58-year-old male.

A man has been detained in Beacon after a deadly shooting on Rombout Avenue Monday night.
Police say the man is a retired Beacon police officer and was involved in the incident, which happened shortly after 9 p.m.
The department says it received a call from a man reporting he had shot his roommate. Responding officers determined the retired officer was one of the people involved and immediately detained him.
Beacon police say they turned the investigation over to New York State Police to maintain integrity. State police say the victim was a 58-year-old male.
No further details have been released. There is no threat to public safety.
