Health officials are sounding the alarm about measles cases on the rise and exposure sites growing.

New Jersey officials confirmed a positive case of the virus in Hudson County this week and in Ocean County last week.

Doctors say having a vaccination rate of less than 95% is worrisome, making communities vulnerable to outbreaks. They say that the virus can be difficult to treat.

"Recognition of measles is also a concern because, remember, measles was eliminated from the U.S. in the year 2000. So, many, many of the physicians have never seen measles, and recognizing a child that presents with fever and a rash, runny nose and a cough, red eyes, which can mimic many of the other viral illnesses,” says Dr. Uzma Hasan, division chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at RWJ Barnabas Health.”

Health officials are urging those without the measles vaccine to get the shot.
