A 10-year-old girl from Yonkers was honored by West Point Garrison for her bravery when she saved her baby sister.
Maya Ozuna jumped into action on July 20 when her 13-month-old sister began choking. She performed CPR, called 911, and helped communicate between emergency responders and nearby adults despite a language barrier, according to West Point officials.
“It’s not every day when somebody gets to save a life,” one official said. “Especially when that somebody is 10, and it’s their little sister.”
Officials said they’re excited to see what Maya will accomplish as she grows up.
